Can’t post comments for some weird reason. Can anyone help?

    The last several times I’ve tried to comment on an answer (or comment on someone else’s comment), the system won’t post my comment. I type the comment, and submit it, and then it disappears and never gets posted. Posting questions and answers seems to work fine.

    Posting comments worked fine previously. Not sure what I’m doing wrong – anyone have any ideas? I’ve tried on both desktop computer and phone – neither will let me comment at the moment.

    As a workaround, a few times I posted my comment as an answer, but I feel this may be annoying people (sorry!) so I’m reluctant to keep doing that.

    If anyone can help me work this out, I’d be very appreciative. Thanks 😊.

      My choice then would be `to post as an answer.   In some ways comments are answers  with a twist.

        I’d suggest PMing Dale and asking him, though he may refer you to PaulB. Exact name is “Dale”.

        However, I suggest sticking with giving “answers” instead of comments. Answers are much easier to be noticed, can be voted, and can be found via your profile. They’re just better all around.

          Is it possible that you weren’t logged in, or at least not logged in initially? If you see something in a post that you want to comment on, then you log in to comment, you may have to refresh your browser if using a phone. At least this is what happens to me, I can’t make a post in this case unless I refresh, even if I go back to the main page and then back in to the same question.

          Definitely logged in, and definitely did not work.

          Oh, it worked just now. How frustrating! I have no idea why it wasn’t working before. Hopefully it keeps behaving from now on.

            I doubt this is it since you’ve tried your computer too …. but just a couple of days ago, I tried making a comment a few different times, inserting some emojis from my phone. They must be emojis this site doesn’t support because when I would hit post, the whole comment just disappeared. I finally just had to type in the code for the closest emoji I know the site supports.

            The emoji issue is definitely real, both from computer and from phone. I think the same is true of certain images.

              I’ve had the same issue as well SC.

              I miss the old boards and all the emojis we had, including the “on fire/hot” one.

                This happened to me yesterday. I had written a long answer as a comment to someone’s comment on my post on QOTD. I was definitely logged in. I don’t think I used an emoji. I didn’t try again because I was too frustrated.

                Obviously working for me now. In re-composing what I wanted to say in a comment from yesterday, I realized that I did indeed use an emoji at the end, so maybe that was the issue (using iPad).

                  @Everyone:

                  This has been suggested before, but it may help to do a reminder. If you type a long/thoughtful question, answer, or comment, it may be a good idea to select all that text and copy it prior to submitting it. That way, if the system botches it, you haven’t lost all your work.

                  The same is true when posting comments on blogs.

                  Definitely. I do that most of the time.

                    Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions – I’m pretty sure it was the emoji that was causing the problem. I was definitely trying to post a comment with an emoji last time, and it never worked. Just tried it again without using that emoji and it worked fine.

                    Thanks!

                      @MQ:

                      Just as a heads up, SOME emoji are allowed and can be fun. Now…figuring out which ones is the problem…

                        It’s great that we all kind of figured this out together 😀

                        I don’t think this is available on mobile, but for anyone who doesn’t know, these are the “SMILEYS” (emojis) this site supports:
