Is this offensive?
Last night while watching a show the ad below came on. My wife and I had different responses to the ad. I found it kind of cute and laughed a bit internally. My wife thought it was crude and was offended that they would make an ad like this.
A few questions.
- Do you find the ad offensive similar to my wife?
- If you find it offensive – why?
- Is this a male versus female thing?
- Would you be turned off using this product?
I have found that a few other Downy WrinkleGuard ads have a slight risque tone. As wiht the first one in a cute way.
I am PRO old people sex. I hope to have some one day.
Also, I think any tasteful representation of sex between two loving married people is a great thing.
Kids are way more traumatized from divorce than they are from accidentally witnessing Godly sex.
I have found them funny… the only thing I have done when seeing the commercial is analyze what kind of sexual message it is giving. Is it giving a negative message that older folks shouldn’t be having sexual fun? Or that they still do? And I wouldn’t expect anything less from a kid/grandkid to turn their nose up or roll their eyes at the idea of their parents/grandparents “getting it on” in the closet.
No, I don’t find it offensive or even risqué, probably because I don’t associate wrinkled clothes with sex. Even the grandpa’s dialogue, “Lets get it up there” doesn’t translate to anything sexual, in my opinion. If anything, it’s a stretch to me that a kid would think that.
I have no issues with it. This is a forum of sex-positive people, so I doubt anyone else will either unless its related to appropriateness for certain ages.
We don’t have TV, so this is my first time viewing this ad series. Looks like there are some similar ones:

ETA: Zelda agrees, not offensive.
I didn’t find it offensive or even very risqué. I am in favor of exposing children to positive examples of marriage where sex is a regular part of the relationship. Lots of touching and hugging and kissing in public. The commercial is not really sex positive in the sense that I think the message is “we all know old people aren’t having sex, but the teenager doesn’t realize that. “
I thought this ad was HILARIOUS from the first time I saw it and yes, I am certainly in support of positive sex examples for married couples. Of course, any time I can mess with my kids is bonus…but I don’t want to really think about my aging parents ( 80+)getting it on, which I’m sure they do .
Then again, my wife thinks I’m a JH boy when I say the word boobies or see her’s. 😀
