QOTD – 6-29-2020- What is your favorite Bible passage on sex?
My favorite verses are SoS 2:16-17 (NKJV):
“My beloved is mine, and I am his. He feeds his flock among the lilies. Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag upon the mountains of Bether.”
SLS’s paraphrase of what the wife is saying here: We belong to each other, we are safe and secure in each other’s arms. We are free to revel and play with each other. Please get on top and make passionate love to me all night long till we are both satiated.
My favorite verses…”Let thy fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times, and be thou ravished always with her love.”
Proverbs 5:18-19. Since we are both in our late 60s she surely is the wife of my youth!
Seeing that my first choices are taken, how about these:
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Song of Songs 6:2 My beloved has gone down to his garden,
to the beds of spices,
to browse in the gardens
and to gather lilies.
Song of Songs 7:6-9 How beautiful you are and how pleasing,
my love, with your delights!
7 Your stature is like that of the palm,
and your breasts like clusters of fruit.
8 I said, “I will climb the palm tree;
I will take hold of its fruit.”
May your breasts be like clusters of grapes on the vine,
the fragrance of your breath like apples,
9 and your mouth like the best wine.
I like to joke about “greet one another with a HOLY kiss” from multiple passages and “hold fast to that which is good” from 1 Thes. 5, couple that with SoS 7:6-9 and DW and I are good!
Let’s just say that the following invitation is amazing and my wife can quote this to me anytime she wants!!!
SoS 4:16 Awake, north wind, and come, south wind!
Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread everywhere.
Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.
Finally, I love Proverbs 5:18-19 and I regularly quote in to DW who chuckles and says “we didn’t know each other then…and if we did, you’d have been in trouble with the law” (due to our age difference). TBH, I quote v19 to myself regularly when seeing someone whom God has created with “certain well-defined features”. I remind myself that female is God’s creation, someone’s wife, sister, daughter, girlfriend, etc, and I have a lovely wife at home who gives me spectacular experiences and mental pics (even physical ones), and then I quote those verses. Then when I get home I tell my wife what happened and ask to see her breasts, touch hers, kiss hers and I celebrate her womanhood, my marriage to her, marvel about her beauty, how she’s God’s gift to me and quote the verses again while touching and kissing them. Honesty breeds intimacy and she has always welcomed my advances after that honesty.
I’m going to go with Genesis 4:1.
“Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, ‘I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.'” [ESV]
This is the first time the Bible mentions sex, and possibly could be the first time sex ever happened (though I hope it happened pre-fall, as that makes for a fascinating concept). Something about the word “knew” is so fitting. I love it and think its an apt description of married sex.
