Small victories

I read somewhere that if you’re going to pay your wife a compliment about her looks, make it something specific that will give her satisfaction with herself and boost her confidence.  So yesterday morning I said to her in my most dramatic voice, “Have I ever told you that you look so . . . majestic?”

She laughed.  “I’m exhausted and I’m wearing sweats.  I don’t look majestic.”

I regrouped.  At the end of the day, before dinner as she was leaning on me from fatigue dealing with the kids, I said in a more serious tone, “I wasn’t just blowing smoke when I said you look majestic.  You are tall and broad-shouldered, with a statuesque frame.  Especially when you hold your head up, you look very regal.  Not many women have that.”

She paused for a second, smiled and said “Well, thank you.”

    Small victories.

Way to go! Being specific is a good thing for all of us. It is amazing what our wives will hear or read into, especially when they do not “feel” the compliment you are trying to give and communicate.

GOOD JOB!  And the best thing is that what you told her was not only complimentary BUT it was true… credible to her.
