Today’s Question(s) of the Day for 12/04/2019
All I know is at the ripe old age of 12, a mentally handicapped friend told me that girls my age had babies sometimes. I was so scared and had a terrible year, worrying about it. I just knew I was getting fatter. I didn’t realize at that point, that it took a dad and a mom.
My mom felt she had not had enough information early enough, so I think she over-compensated a bit by educating me with the science (sperm, eggs, uterus, etc.) very early. The only part I didn’t know was how the sperm got to the eggs. I thought when the mom and the dad went to bed at night it kind of “jumped” from him to her. Nap time at the babysitter’s was a wee bit alarming!
I don’t think I ever thought about it as with a lot of things. My world at that age was focused and small that did not include such intellectual pursuits. However, when I began to consider this I held the view that a baby came from a man and a woman, as in “they had a baby.”
I don’t think I ever really wondered enough to formulate my own theory on it, up until it occurred to me to wonder I didn’t really give it much thought. I was a very curious child (constantly asking questions) and I think I was about 5 when I did wonder, specifically how the baby got into the mommy’s tummy so I asked my mom and she told me.
