Unable to add comments today…

I’ve tried at multiple times to add a comment to a thread both on the website using a computer and from my IOS phone.  Each time when clicking ‘Submit’ it just disappears and never gets added.

Am I missing something? I’ve able to do this many times in the past.

You are listed as “Twin Bed” badge, which does not have the privilege to comment. Did you change accounts from one that used to have more points/higher badge?

I believe at that level you can comment on your own answers but not on others.

A quick glance on that thread showed an answer from you, but not a comment (though I might have missed it). Answers and comments are different. A lot of people will use the “answer” functionality to respond to another answer instead of using the comment function, so you could do that instead of using an actual “comment”? More likely to get you more points that way too…

Yes, the comments and answers features are totally different.  I don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense, but it’s not something that can be changed.

I tend to think of comments as being for quick little tangents that really only apply to that one answer, and maybe only to that one poster. Lately I’ve been realizing that if I want to be sure someone sees an answer to something they said, an answer that starts with @username will appear in the  Latest Answers feed and attract their attention. And if it is a tangent on  an answer but it’s more than just a quick toss away “comment”, then I think I really should just either make a PM or a whole new post.

Unfortunately, I agree with your conclusion. The comment feature is just so convenient for staying on a given subtopic! Too bad it doesn’t show in the side bar or allow for votes.
